Born in Santiago, Chile, Alexander Eros Rocco immigrated to Canada at the age of eleven. His artistic journey began early, inspired by his grandmother, who nurtured his love of drawing and encouraged his creativity. As a child, he attended classes at the Art Gallery of Ontario, where he explored a wide range of artistic media, including watercolour, coloured pencil, acrylic painting, and photography. His instructors recognized his artistic ability and encouraged him to pursue formal studies in the arts.Although his academic path later led him to the University of Waterloo, where he studied quantum mechanics, physics, and nineteenth-century Spanish literature, art remained a constant presence in his life. He continued to draw and photograph, developing a distinctive visual perspective that soon gained recognition. His work was selected by Photo Life magazine as part of its Top 10 Up-and-Coming Canadian Photographers, marking an important milestone in his artistic career.Alexander's fascination with fashion photography began while photographing Toronto Fashion Week. Captivated by the sculptural forms, movement, and craftsmanship of couture, he created the Mode Shape series—a body of work that explores the relationship between light, composition, and form. Viewing fashion as a fleeting art form, he sought to preserve its visual essence beyond the limitations of traditional photography.
His artistic practice has since evolved into a multidisciplinary approach that combines photography with painting and mixed media. By incorporating soft pastels, acrylic markers, and paint directly onto photographic prints, Alexander transforms each work into a unique, one-of-a-kind piece that bridges contemporary photography and fine art.For more than seventeen years, Alexander has exhibited his work in galleries, with pieces held in private collections throughout Canada and internationally. His photography has received international recognition through awards including the International Photography Awards (IPA) and the Prix de la Photographie, Paris (PX3). His work has been exhibited in galleries across Canada and the United States and has been featured in publications including Black & White Magazine, Silvershotz, and Fshn Unlimited, reflecting the growing international appreciation of his distinctive artistic vision.
